INGE HANSEN'S WORLD

Inge Hansen was born in this house. The picture is from approx. 1909, and shows her father and some of his siblings as well as his mother.
The house is located in Glostrup, Egebjerg which was, and still is, far out in the countryside Odsherred. It was from this environment that she "fled" in 1951 to marry my Father.

Here my mother was born and lived her childhood and youth. She was born on April 27, 1927 as the first of Georg and Anna Valborg Hansen's two children. She had a brother, Hans, who was born ca. 10 years later than she herself, so the two have not had much childhood together. One can easily imagine that in her childhood she has been a great deal alone. She went to school in Egebjerg Gl. Skole in Egebjerg, and it is not my impression that she had a large circle of friends in her childhood and youth.

She married Poul Erhardt Hansen, who was also from the Odsherred area, as an 18 year old on June 16, 1946.

She was pregnant and gave birth to a daughter, Jonna (pictured a little further down), on October 15, 1946. But already on December 23, 1949, Inge and Poul Erhardt divorced. The reason was adultery on her part.

Jonna stayed with her father, and Inge "disappeared" a bit from history until, on July 7, 1951, she married my father at Holbæk City Hall. There is no doubt that the two were in love with each other, but I also feel very confident that this marriage also did involve not completely insignificant elements of need for escape from history, from family (which can easily be a little more judgmental so far out in the countryside), and from a somewhat unsuccessful past for Inge. And here was Niels Vagn (my father) both the raft that could save her from "drowning" in Odsherred, and he was the knight on the white horse who could fight for her and lead her far, far away from the life that had been so unsuccessful for her.

In any case, Inge has never had anything to do with Jonna, nor has she ever told me about Jonna, or about her past at all. I first learned that I had one more sister, in connection with Inge's death in 2007.

You could say that Inge was a bit of a rebel. She left the Odsherred area, apparently the first in the genus for many, many years, and then she even married a Copenhagener, and moved to the capital. It was definitely not the usual way ti behave, and it certainly took courage to do so.

So it's probably not unfair to say that my mother was a trying, and maybe even a little unlucky, girl from the country who became a brave rebel with a deep secret that she kept throughout her life. In a way, it is not hard to imagine that Inge, throughout her life, was a lonely soul who went her own way and did not attract friends or acquaintances, but who alone would cope with her femininity. She was married three times, most recently with Hugo who adored her more than was reasonable. But she was never shown to be really happy or satisfied. Unfortunately, she also died as a lonely woman.

Inge died on January 5, 2007 in Copenhagen.
